A US-based Nigerian soldier has sparked widespread conversation online after openly urging Nigerians to embrace President Donald Trump’s proposal to deploy American troops to help combat Boko Haram and other terror groups in the country. According to him, this opportunity is one Nigeria should “grab with both hands.”

The soldier, an Urhobo man identified on TikTok as @odjezy, posted a detailed video explaining why he believes U.S. military assistance could drastically improve Nigeria’s security landscape. He began by citing his Nigerian upbringing and educational background as grounds for speaking on the issue with authority.

“As an Urhobo boy who was born in Nigeria, who obtained multiple degrees in Nigeria ranging from law certification to language and literature, I deserve to air my opinion on what is going on in Nigeria right now,” he said.

Nigerians’ Fears: Loss of Control, Chaos & Dependency

In the video, the soldier acknowledged the many fears Nigerians have about accepting foreign military aid. He listed several major concerns he has observed from online debates and conversations.

“One of the basic fears Nigerians have is the fear of losing sovereignty,” he explained. “They are scared that if they allow foreign troops to come, they’re going to lose national control and the willpower to do things themselves because America will always intrude.”

He added that others fear the conflict worsening with U.S. involvement, potentially escalating tension rather than reducing it.

“Nigerians fear that the presence of American troops will worsen the situation rather than fix it,” he said.

He also pointed out concerns about foreign expectations and dependency, noting that many Nigerians worry about being obligated to the U.S. in ways they may not fully understand.

Five Reasons Nigerians Should Accept Trump’s Offer

Countering the fears, the soldier laid out five potential benefits that, in his view, outweigh the risks. He argued that U.S. involvement could bring long-term stability and transform Nigeria’s security operations.

“First, enhanced counter-terrorism capabilities—do you know what it means for Nigeria to have access to U.S. intelligence?” he emphasized.

He continued:

“Second, professional military training. Third, improved regional security. Anywhere America builds a base, they ensure it is safe and secure.”

He dismissed rumours that the U.S. would come to exploit Nigeria’s resources, saying:

“America will not come for your oil. They have enough already.”

“Fourth, this will strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.”

“Finally, America wants answers. They want to know how all the money and equipment they’ve sent since 2017 were used. Is that a bad thing?”

He ended his message with a strong warning:

“If Nigeria loses this opportunity President Trump is offering, that means say e don finish.”

Heavy Reactions From Nigerians

The soldier’s video has since gone viral, drawing thousands of comments from Nigerians both home and abroad. Some praised him for speaking boldly and offering clarity on the issue, while others warned that foreign intervention could have long-term consequences.

The Nigerian government has maintained its stance that there is no targeted genocide against Christians and no need for foreign military intervention, despite Trump’s recent comments reigniting global scrutiny.
