The Falconets, Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, continued their dominant campaign at the 2025 WAFU B U-20 Girls Cup with a commanding 3–0 victory over the Benin Republic Amazones on Sunday at the Stade Adjanhou.
Coming into the fixture after a strong win against Ghana in their opening match, the Falconets displayed confidence, discipline, and tactical superiority, extending their unbeaten streak in the competition.
Once again, forward Ramotalahi Kareem proved pivotal as she delivered a standout performance, scoring twice and causing constant problems for Benin’s backline.
Falconets take early control
Nigeria wasted no time asserting themselves, launching quick and coordinated attacks that pushed the home side onto the back foot.
Their early pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Kareem capitalised on a flowing team move, firing clinically into the net to hand the Falconets a deserved lead.
Despite the encouragement of their home supporters, Benin struggled to keep up with Nigeria’s intensity. Their attempts to push forward were repeatedly broken down by the Falconets’ organised defensive structure and quick transitions.
Kareem shines again as Nigeria overpower hosts
In the 59th minute, Kareem struck again, punishing a defensive error from the Amazones. Her composed finish doubled Nigeria’s advantage and further dampened Benin’s hopes of a comeback.
As the match approached its conclusion, substitute Precious Oscar added the third goal in added time, completing a swift counter-attack that highlighted the Falconets’ sharpness and attacking depth.
Nigeria tighten grip on the group
Sunday’s win follows their 3–1 victory over Ghana, giving the Falconets maximum six points from two matches along with an impressive goal difference.
With clinical finishing, strong teamwork, and unwavering focus, the Nigerian side now stand firmly as favourites to retain their WAFU B title for a second consecutive year.
Their next matches will determine whether they can maintain their flawless run and secure another championship triumph.
