Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has sparked a wave of public discussion after revealing detailed instructions regarding his burial plans, coinciding with his 65th birthday on Friday. The ex-governor made it clear that upon his death, his body “belongs to the Ekiti State Government” and specified that he must be buried within four weeks of passing.

Fayose went further to emphasize that the burial ceremony should be exclusively supervised by the state authorities and his children, reflecting his desire for strict adherence to his wishes. The former governor disclosed that he had prepared a special garden at his grandmother’s home where he intends to be laid to rest, and instructed that after the burial, no one should visit the site again. “Allow me to rest,” he said, underlining his wish for privacy and finality regarding his resting place.

‘Allow me to rest,’ ex-governor says

In his statement, Fayose said: “When I die, my body belongs to Ekiti State Govt and I must be buried within four weeks. My children must follow the Govt of Ekiti during the burial. I made a garden in my grandmother’s home where I should be laid to rest and after that, nobody must come there again. Allow me to rest.” This declaration has captured the attention of many, as it blends personal preference with state involvement, reflecting his lifelong connection to Ekiti State governance and politics.

However, not everyone in his family received the directives positively. Fayose’s brother, Isaac Fayose, responded with a sharply worded message on social media, criticizing the former governor for what he described as selfishness and a sense of betrayal. Isaac expressed his disappointment, saying that Fayose had betrayed those who have always supported him and hoping that turning 65 would bring about a positive transformation in his character.[/p>

In his message, Isaac stated: “You’ve betrayed everyone that has been there for you… I pray the spirit of selfishness in you will disappear and you can finally be a good man. You are the most selfish brother anyone can wish for, and I hope this new age brings you reflection and change.”

The birthday and burial instructions have generated discussions on social media, with many users debating the appropriateness of combining state authority with personal burial plans. Some supporters argued that Fayose’s desire to have the government involved ensures dignity and order, while critics viewed the move as excessively controlling and unconventional.
