The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has publicly commended Lieutenant A.M. Yarima, the Nigerian Navy officer who recently confronted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over a disputed property in Abuja. Badaru described Yarima’s actions as “commendable” and emphasized the importance of upholding the law while performing military duties.
The property in question reportedly belongs to former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, and the disagreement escalated when Wike attempted to gain access to the site despite instructions from military authorities preventing entry.

During a press briefing held at the National Defence College in Abuja on the occasion of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration, Minister Badaru stressed that the Federal Government is committed to protecting officers performing their lawful duties. He stated, “At the Ministry and across the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers performing their duties lawfully. Lieutenant Yarima has acted commendably, and we will ensure his safety.” Badaru added that the matter is being thoroughly reviewed, assuring that any officer following legitimate instructions would receive full protection from undue interference or intimidation.
