A senior military personnel has made a compelling appeal to all members of Boko Haram, urging them to lay down their arms immediately and embrace peace, stressing that true national progress can only be achieved when insurgents abandon violence and reintegrate into society.

In a statement released during an interview with local media, the officer highlighted that there are numerous opportunities for those willing to reform, contribute positively to the nation, and build productive lives. “Everyone needs to come on board. Boko Haram should lay their arms unconditionally and be accepted in the community. Opportunities are out there for them; they can be rehabilitated and reintegrated,” he said, emphasizing the importance of societal acceptance in the rehabilitation process.

The officer further stated that turning away from a life of violence does not only secure personal safety but also opens doors to national leadership positions, including the presidency. “An ex-Boko Haram member, if he turns away from his negativity, stands to be the president of this country or hold any position in this country. Why is he wasting his time when he cannot deliver?” he questioned, highlighting the wasted potential of continued insurgency.

He called on collaborators and sympathizers of the insurgents to intervene and encourage surrender, pointing out that collective action is essential for national peace. “Failing to reconcile and surrender will only prolong conflict, destabilize communities, and cause unnecessary loss of lives,” he warned. He added that Nigeria’s path to security and harmony requires the active participation of all citizens, especially those involved in insurgency.

According to the military officer, the government has put in place comprehensive rehabilitation programs designed to support repentant insurgents, offering education, vocational training, and societal acceptance. This approach, he said, ensures that former fighters can reintegrate successfully and contribute meaningfully to their communities, ultimately restoring normalcy to areas devastated by violence.

He emphasized that surrendering arms is not just a personal decision but a national responsibility, asserting that collective commitment from all parties is crucial to ending the insurgency. “This is a call to action for all insurgents: surrender your weapons and help us reoccupy our peaceful coexistence again,” he urged, stressing that immediate action is vital for the sake of the nation and its citizens.

The officer’s message also highlighted the broader societal benefits of deradicalization, noting that reintegration programs can prevent the next generation from falling into extremism while fostering unity and reconciliation across affected communities.

He concluded by appealing to families and local leaders to actively support the surrender and rehabilitation process, saying that collaboration between security agencies, communities, and former insurgents is the only sustainable way to secure lasting peace in Nigeria.
