Popular Nigerian rapper, Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, better known as Zlatan Ibile, has once again voiced his frustration over the worsening economic situation in Nigeria, calling out the government for neglecting the struggles of ordinary citizens.

Speaking during an interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, the award-winning artiste expressed deep concern over how Nigerians have become so familiar with hardship that many now see it as a normal part of everyday life.

Zlatan explained that years of unaddressed economic and social challenges have pushed people into a state of forced resilience, where suffering is often endured in silence.

‘Suffering and Smiling’—Zlatan describes Nigerian reality

Highlighting a culture formed out of survival, Zlatan said Nigerians have learned to smile through their pain because they no longer expect meaningful change from their leaders.

“We are used to it, s¥ffering and smiling, that’s how it has always been and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” he said, lamenting the government’s consistent failure to address poverty, unemployment, and inflation.

His comments came while reacting to a satirical observation by British rapper Dave, who pointed out the stark contrast between Nigerians spending heavily at clubs and beggars struggling just outside the premises.

Zlatan explained that this inequality is a painful reflection of how difficult life is for many, even as a minority still manages to live lavishly.

Calls for balanced responsibility

However, the rapper also pointed out that some Nigerians contribute to their situation by depending solely on handouts instead of seeking meaningful opportunities.

He noted that while government intervention is desperately needed, individuals must also take responsibility for improving their lives through effort, skills and self-development.

“Some people don’t want to try anything again. They just wait for who go dash them. That one no good too,” he hinted during the conversation.

Zlatan urged Nigerians to find ways to rise above hardship while continuing to demand accountability from those in power.

Youth voice for change

As a major figure in Nigerian youth culture, Zlatan’s remarks have resonated widely on social media, sparking discussions about the harsh reality many are facing.

Fans praised him for speaking boldly about the government’s shortcomings and for encouraging young people to keep pushing forward despite the challenges.

The rapper concluded by encouraging Nigerians not to give up hope, stressing that meaningful change requires both responsible leadership and personal determination.
