Billionaire businessman, politician, and lawyer, Ned Nwoko, has finally spoken out amid widespread social media claims that he married Nollywood actress Regina Daniels when she was still a teenager. The senator took to his official X (formerly Twitter) page to clear the air, describing the allegations as a calculated attempt to tarnish his image and mislead the public about the true circumstances surrounding their marriage.
In a detailed statement that has since gone viral, Ned Nwoko firmly denied the accusation that he married Regina when she was 17, clarifying that she was in fact 21 years old at the time they met and eventually tied the knot.
According to the billionaire, their first meeting took place several years ago, and he made sure to confirm her age personally before pursuing any relationship with her. “It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated, suggesting that I married Regina when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue,” he wrote in the post.
Nwoko explained that during their initial encounter, he specifically asked Regina for her age, and she showed him her INEC voter’s card as evidence. The document, he said, clearly showed her date of birth as October 10, 1998, confirming that she was already an adult at the time. “For clarity, during my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age and she told me she was 21. She showed me her INEC voter’s card as proof. I kept that document from that day till now,” he stated.
He went on to emphasize that they have been married for six years, which makes Regina 27 years old today, not 23 or 24 as many blogs continue to report. Nwoko also referred to a BBC interview granted by Regina’s mother shortly after their marriage, saying her comments in that interview aligned with his version of events and further debunked the false claims circulating online.
However, the statement took a more dramatic turn when Ned Nwoko addressed the recent controversies involving his wife. He alleged that Regina’s recent statements and behaviour may have been influenced by personal struggles, claiming that she has been dealing with issues related to drug addiction and an incomplete rehabilitation process. “Until these facts are verified, the public should approach all her claims with discernment, especially given her current mental condition, having started and abandoned her rehabilitation from illegal drug addiction,” he said.
This response came shortly after activist and politician Omoyele Sowore called out Ned Nwoko on social media, accusing him of marrying Regina as a minor. Sowore also shared what he described as “passport evidence” and alleged that Nwoko introduced Regina to drugs as a means of control — a claim that Nwoko has now strongly denied.
The development has sparked intense debate across social media platforms, with Nigerians sharply divided over the revelations. While some netizens have praised Nwoko for presenting documentary evidence and setting the record straight, others have criticized him for publicly mentioning Regina’s alleged personal struggles, saying it was unnecessary and could further strain their marriage.
