Music promoter K-Light has openly admitted that marrying a single mother of two has turned out to be the biggest mistake of his life, describing the journey as fraught with unforeseen challenges and emotional turmoil that he had not anticipated before committing to the union.
In a detailed interview with media outlets, the producer revealed that he was already in a committed relationship when the woman, now his wife, initially sent him a friend request on social media. At the time, he had no idea that this seemingly innocent connection would later upend his personal and financial stability.
The Beginning of the Ordeal
K-Light explained that the woman strategically positioned herself in his life shortly after his then-girlfriend ended their relationship, reportedly citing family opposition to her marrying a Yoruba man as the reason for the breakup. According to K-Light, the breakup appeared orchestrated by the woman who eventually became his wife, who he claims had been manipulating events "behind the scenes" to ensure he would become involved with her.
He admitted that he only realized later that he had been under a subtle influence throughout the early stages of the relationship, and by the time he recognized the manipulation, he was already emotionally invested. Despite knowing she was a single mother with no father figure for her children, K-Light said he fully committed to supporting both her and her family, taking on responsibilities beyond what he had initially expected.
K-Light detailed how he took significant steps to ensure their welfare, including funding the children’s schooling, renting a self-contained apartment for the woman in Ibadan, and choosing to stay elsewhere during visits so as not to disturb the children. His commitment extended beyond logistics, as he poured considerable emotional energy into maintaining a stable environment for them all.
As their relationship developed further, he rented a mini-flat in Lagos in preparation for a future together. K-Light recounted that he consistently prioritized her needs financially, often giving her the majority of his earnings. He explained, “If I made ₦500,000, I could give her ₦350,000 first and still spend from the remaining ₦150,000,” highlighting the level of financial commitment he had undertaken to secure the household’s wellbeing.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, K-Light earned over ₦4 million from a project with artiste Dotman. He used this money to pay her bride price and cover various marital expenses, reinforcing his dedication to the marriage despite the strains that later emerged. The couple initially lived peacefully in the mini-flat, and after she became pregnant with his child, they moved into a larger two-bedroom apartment in Lagos to accommodate the growing family.
However, K-Light revealed that over time, her interest and commitment to the marriage began to fade, marking the start of deeper marital problems. What had initially seemed like a promising relationship soon became a source of emotional stress and disappointment, leaving him questioning the decisions that led him into the marriage and reflecting on the personal and financial toll it has taken on him.
He concluded by emphasizing that while he had entered the marriage with genuine intentions and an open heart, the reality of the relationship has been far more complicated and challenging than he had ever imagined, making him view his decision to marry a single mother of two as the most regrettable choice of his life.
