Issac Fayose, a younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, has publicly called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to resign immediately, citing concerns over insecurity, economic hardship, and the overall governance of the country.

The appeal was made in a viral social media video in which Fayose addressed the president directly, insisting that Nigeria requires a younger, more dynamic leader to navigate the country through its current challenges. The video, lasting approximately three minutes, has gained significant attention online, with many Nigerians reacting to his bold statement.

Fayose urges Tinubu to step down

In the video, Fayose pleaded with President Tinubu to step down if he feels unable to lead the nation effectively. Opening his message, he said: “This message is for my President, President Tinubu, I think it is time for you to resign now.” Fayose emphasized that leadership should be responsive to the needs of citizens and that a failure to act in times of crisis undermines public confidence in governance.

Concern over insecurity and hardship

Fayose questioned how the president can remain comfortable amid the growing wave of insecurity, kidnappings, and economic hardship facing Nigerians. He stressed that the current state of the country—marked by widespread violence, poverty, and declining public trust—requires urgent and decisive leadership. He asked pointedly: “How do you feel comfortable being President over a failed nation? How do you feel comfortable being President over insecurity?”

Laments Kebbi abduction and attacks on soldiers

The younger Fayose condemned the recent kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls from a government secondary school in Kebbi State, noting that the attack also claimed the life of the school’s vice principal. He further highlighted the rising deaths of Nigerian soldiers at the hands of terrorists and bandits, questioning the president’s apparent calmness in the face of such tragedies. Fayose’s remarks underline a growing public frustration with the government’s inability to adequately respond to security threats and protect its citizens.

Calls for immediate resignation

Fayose concluded his message by urging President Tinubu to resign immediately and make way for a younger leader capable of addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges. He insisted that stepping aside would be in the best interest of the nation, allowing for fresh leadership that can implement effective policies, restore public confidence, and tackle insecurity and economic difficulties head-on.

The video has sparked widespread discussion on social media, with many users supporting Fayose’s call for accountability and strong leadership, while others debate the timing and implications of such a statement. Nigerians continue to express concerns about the country’s trajectory, and Fayose’s remarks have added fuel to the ongoing discourse about governance and leadership in the nation.
