The show, part of the superstar’s ongoing “5ive Tour,” reportedly attracted a crowd far exceeding the 20,000-capacity venue. Multiple eyewitnesses claimed that the situation spiraled out of control when the venue gates allegedly collapsed under pressure from thousands trying to gain entry — including many who reportedly had no tickets.

According to fans, the breach resulted in chaos inside the square, where security personnel were overwhelmed, allowing hoodlums to infiltrate the venue and allegedly steal phones, wallets, wigs, and other personal items. Many attendees said they felt unsafe throughout the event, with complaints spreading rapidly across social media moments after the show.

Fans recount traumatic experience

Social media platforms were flooded with emotional testimonies from concertgoers who described what they experienced as “a nightmare” and “complete disorder.”

One attendee claimed that ticketless touts dominated the crowd and engaged in widespread theft, while security officers appeared unable to intervene effectively. Another user lamented the harassment women faced, saying many female fans were groped and pushed during the stampede-like rush to secure space.

Adding to the frustration, several fans complained that Davido did not mount the stage until approximately 3 a.m., nearly 12 hours behind schedule, heightening tensions among a restless and distressed crowd.

Backlash and calls for accountability

Following the incident, disappointed fans called out the organisers for what they labelled poor planning, inadequate crowd control, and weak safety protocols. Many demanded an official apology and a refund, while others urged authorities and event promoters to enforce stricter safety standards for concerts in Nigeria.

A TikTok user, who went viral while crying on camera, said she lost her phone, wig, shoes, and bag during the chaos. Others posted similar accounts, with some alleging that several concertgoers fainted and that emergency assistance was limited.

Critics online described the show’s organisation as a “total security failure,” questioning why a concert of this magnitude did not have stronger enforcement, better barricades, and proper entry control measures. Many fans insisted that the venue was oversold, and safety considerations were overlooked in pursuit of profit.
